Vocational Education & Training Victoria | Youth Central

Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects give you the chance to combine job-focused training with your VCE or VCAL studies.

What VET gives you

Doing VET subjects as part of VCE or VCAL is like doing TAFE at the same time as Year 11 or 12.

The marks you get in your VET subjects:

  • count towards your ATAR
  • give you credit for TAFE or uni courses.

If you do VET subjects in year 11 or 12 you'll finish school with:

  • your VCE or VCAL certificate
  • a nationally accredited VET certificate.

Choosing VET subjects

VET subjects are available in areas including:

  • hospitality-operations
  • dance
  • sport and recreation
  • agriculture
  • music
  • retail operations.

The best way to make a decision about what subjects to do is to work backwards. Think about what kind of job you want find out what skills or qualifications you’ll need.

You can start your research with our Career profiles section.

A full list of VET subjects available as part of VCE or VCAL is on the VCAA website.
