How to Find Volunteer Work
Finding a volunteer position is not hard. There are heaps of non-profit organisations and charities that regularly use volunteers. Check out our Organisations seeking volunteers page for links to organisations that use volunteers.
Before finding a place to volunteer, there are several things to think about:
- What kind of organisation do you want to volunteer for?
- What kind of volunteer work do you want to do?
- How much time can you afford to spend volunteering?
Some organisations prefer people who can make a regular commitment of one or two hours per week for at least six or twelve months. Other organisations need volunteers to help with a short-term campaign or even just for a day.
Once you've found the organisation that you'd like to volunteer for, get in touch with them and ask them how you can get involved with their volunteer program.
Many organisations offer volunteering opportunities during Volunteer Week, which happens every May.
The Volunteering Australia website (new window) has information on what's happening during Volunteer Week, as well as links to lots of local organisations that are looking for volunteers.
