New Slang w/ Tiny Little Houses, Alex Lahey + more | Youth Central

May 6th marked the beginning of The Push & Art Centre Melbourne’s all-ages, locally dedicated New Slang events, which are run by some of Victoria’s talented young tastemakers, and featuring some of Melbourne (and Australia’s) most talented artists.

Starting off the night and chilling between sets was DJ Ellday Chubby Gal, spinning some classic vibes for the night as young people filled The Channel and came to see what New Slang had on offer.

Fresh off their packed out set at St Kilda Festival 2016, Moss Music opened up our night with their alternative rock and indie tones. Of course, their set would not have been complete without guitarist Iggy’s bright red socks, which was surely a highlight of the evening.

The main support of the night was filled by Alex Lahey. You might know her; she’s a big deal on Triple J at the moment. Alex Lahey’s set was full of up-beat pop rock vibes, which got punters & the New Slang team enthused and dancing. The highlight of the set was most definitely ‘You Don’t Think You Like People Like Me’, which is one of the titles on her debut EP B Grade University, which is due for release in August 2016.

Ending their east coast tour and fresh off the release of the music video for their single ‘Milo Tin’, Tiny Little Houses headlined May’s New Slang event, making it their only all-ages show on the whole tour. Bringing the crowd together with their indie melodies and their lo-fi indie tones, it was no surprise punters were leaving sporting Tiny Little Houses merchandise. If you want to catch Tiny Little Houses they will be playing at their new residency at The Gasometer Hotel starting July 6th and will be heading up the Brisbane in September to play BIGSOUND Festival.

Want to catch a New Slang event in the future? Get down to The Channel, Arts Centre Melbourne the first Friday of every month of 2016!
